Case IH 1129 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Invalid Configuration - Implement Depth Control switch is failed
Issue description
The control module is receiving an illogical, out-of-range, or missing signal from the implement depth control switch (often a potentiometer). The system cannot verify the position or configuration of the switch, disabling automated implement depth control and hitch adjustments.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- MX Magnum Series
- TG Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Quadtrac Series
- Farmall Series
Check the cause
Verify battery voltage and check for a concurrent ARM 8011 (Battery Voltage is too Low) code, as low system voltage can cause the armrest controller to read illogical states.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Armrest Controller and the Implement Depth Control switch for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins (ensure key and disconnect switch are OFF).
Test the variable resistance/voltage output of the depth control potentiometer using a multimeter to check for internal dead spots or an open circuit.
Verify through the tractor's monitor that the implement depth control hasn't lost its configuration memory (often associated with 9000-series memory error codes).
Repair steps
Turn off power
Turn the tractor's key start switch and the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Locate switch
Locate the Implement Depth Control switch/potentiometer. Depending on the specific tractor model, this is located either directly on the armrest console or integrated into the electronic draft control (EDC) lift linkage assembly.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the failed switch.
Remove faulty component
Remove the mounting hardware securing the switch and remove the faulty component.
Install new component
Install the new Implement Depth Control switch/potentiometer and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the machine harness connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Turn on power
Turn the battery disconnect and key switch back to the ON position.
Clear fault code
Access the tractor's diagnostic menu to clear the active ARM 1129 fault code.
Perform calibration
Perform a hitch/depth control calibration procedure so the Armrest Controller can learn the new potentiometer's voltage limits.

Fitment Notes: This is a heavy-duty variable resistance tracking component used in the electronic draft control (EDC) lift linkage assembly. It translates mechanical positions into electronic voltage variations for the primary control module to ensure precise hitch lift adjustments.
