Case IH 113 – TRANS: Creeper clutch solenoid or its wiring failed open or shorted to ground

The control module has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for engaging the creeper gear. The circuit is either incomplete (an open circuit, such as a broken wire, disconnected plug, or burnt-out solenoid coil) or the voltage is taking an unintended path to the chassis (shorted to ground).

   Visually inspect the creeper solenoid on the Transmission Control Valve (TCV) body for physical damage from field debris.

   Check the wiring harness for chafed insulation (which causes a short to ground) or broken wires (which causes an open circuit).

   Verify that the creeper on/off switch in the cab and its mechanical linkage are functioning correctly.

   Use a multimeter to confirm that a full +12V is reaching the solenoid connector when the switch is engaged.

   Disconnect the solenoid and measure the resistance (ohms) across its pins. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit (failed coil), while a reading of zero or continuity to the solenoid housing indicates an internal short to ground.

   Tap the solenoid lightly to check if the solenoid spool is sticking mechanically (this indicates the valve is failing).

   Secure the tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

   Locate the assembly

   Locate the creeper valve and solenoid assembly on the transmission control valve block.

   Disconnect electrical harness

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the creeper solenoid.

   Disconnect hydraulic tube

   Disconnect the creeper clutch hydraulic tube from the valve.

   Remove the assembly

   Unbolt and remove the creeper valve/solenoid assembly from the transmission housing.

   Install new solenoid valve

   Install the new creeper solenoid valve, ensuring any O-rings or seals are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid.

   Reconnect hydraulic tube

   Reconnect the creeper clutch hydraulic tube and tighten to specification.

   Reconnect electrical harness

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.

   Test the tractor

   Restore battery power, clear the TRANS fault codes, and test the tractor to ensure the creeper gear engages smoothly without throwing Code 113.
