Case IH 114 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control): Outlet sensor is shorted to ground
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the temperature outlet sensor that is at or near 0 volts. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to the ground side of the wiring harness, a pinched wire touching the machine's chassis, or an internal short within the sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
1 machine- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
Check the cause
Locate the Temperature Outlet Sensor (identified in Case IH electrical schematics as component B-053 or B053)
Visually inspect the wiring harness between the ATC controller and the Temperature Outlet Sensor for chafing, bare wires, or pinches that could cause a short to the chassis ground
Perform a Sensor Disconnect Test: Disconnect the electrical connector from the outlet sensor, turn the key on, and check active fault codes. If the code changes from 114 to 113, the sensor is internally shorted
Perform a Harness Continuity Test: If code 114 remains active while the sensor is unplugged, use a multimeter to test the signal wire for continuity to ground to locate a harness short
Inspect the ATC controller connector pins and the sensor connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins
Repair steps
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the HVAC/ATC ducting where the Temperature Outlet Sensor (B-053) is mounted.
Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the sensor.
If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness issue, repair the shorted wire and apply heat-shrink tubing.
If the sensor failed the disconnect test, unclip or unthread the faulty Temperature Outlet Sensor from the HVAC housing.
Install the replacement sensor into the ducting.
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Reconnect the battery.
Turn the ignition on and use a Case IH diagnostic scan tool (or equivalent, such as Jaltest) to clear the stored fault codes and verify that the ATC system is now reading the outlet temperature correctly.
