Case IH 114 – Transmission Controller: 2F clutch solenoid coil is shorted
Issue description
The 2F clutch solenoid coil is shorted, or the wire between the 2F clutch solenoid and the transmission controller is shorted to power (+12 Volts). The transmission controller continuously monitors the current draw from the 2F clutch solenoid circuit. If it senses an abnormal current draw indicating a short to power while the driver is off, it logs this code. This fault will typically trigger whenever the transmission is shifted into forward gears 1, 5, 6, or 13. If the issue is temperature-sensitive (only happening when the tractor warms up), it is a strong indicator that the solenoid coil itself is beginning to fail internally.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission controller (underneath the fuse/relay panel in the cab) to the transmission valve body. Look for areas where hydraulic pipes or chassis components may have rubbed through the wire insulation.
Disconnect connectors C157 and C044. Measure the resistance from connector C044 cavity C to C157 cavity 11. If the resistance is greater than 3 ohms, troubleshoot the wiring for an open circuit or high resistance connection.
Measure continuity from C157 cavity 11 to ground to check for a short circuit.
Test the resistance of the 2F clutch solenoid coil itself to see if it is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic tests reveal a short in the wiring (commonly caused by hydraulic lines rubbing the harness), repair the damaged wire. If the damage is extensive or inaccessible, replace the transmission wiring harness and ensure it is routed and secured away from hydraulic pipes.
Solenoid Replacement
If the wiring tests perfectly fine but the fault persists (especially if it only happens at operating temperature), replace the 2F clutch solenoid on the transmission control valve.
Controller Replacement
If both the wiring harness and the solenoid test within specification, the transmission controller itself has failed and must be replaced.
Calibration
After replacing the solenoid or controller, access the "TRANS SETUP" menu on the instrumentation display to clear the fault codes and perform a transmission calibration procedure.
