Case IH 1149 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Auto Field / Transport Switch is in an illogical state.
Issue description
The controller is receiving conflicting, impossible, or missing signals from the Auto Field / Transport switch. For example, the system might be reading that both 'Auto Field' and 'Transport/Road' modes are engaged simultaneously, or it is detecting an open/short circuit where it expects a definitive position signal.

Check the cause
Physical Switch Inspection: Check the physical action of the Auto Field / Transport switch on the armrest. Look for sticking, looseness, or failure to click into position properly due to debris.
System Voltage Check: Check for other active codes. If code ARM 8011 (Battery Voltage is too Low) is present, the illogical state may be caused by a voltage drop to the armrest controller rather than a failed switch.
Wiring and Connector Inspection: Remove the armrest trim and inspect the wiring harness leading to the switch. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or corrosion at the connector pins.
Continuity Test: Unplug the switch and use a multimeter to test continuity across the switch terminals in both the 'Field' and 'Transport' positions. If the switch shows continuity on both circuits at the same time, or no continuity on either, the switch has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits while working on the armrest modules.
Access the ICP/Armrest
Carefully pry up or unbolt the upper trim panel of the Multicontroller armrest to expose the underside of the switch panel (ICP).
Disconnect the Switch
Locate the Auto Field / Transport switch. Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it free from the switch.
Remove the Switch
Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward through the top of the armrest bezel.
Install the New Part
Snap the new OEM switch into the armrest bezel from the top until it clicks securely into place.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch. Ensure the connector locks.
Reassemble and Test
Reinstall the armrest trim panel. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the inactive fault codes via the AFS monitor, and test the tractor in both Auto Field and Auto Road/Transport modes to ensure the code does not return.
