Case IH 115 – Armrest Controller: Aux 4th remote valve FLOW potentiometer has failed

Issue description

The system has detected that the signal from the 4th remote flow control dial (potentiometer) is out of range (either voltage is too high, too low, or the circuit is open/shorted).

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Magnum Series
  • MX Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • TG Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the potentiometer is receiving a steady 5-volt reference signal and has a solid ground from the Armrest Controller.

  2. Monitor the signal wire voltage while slowly turning the 4th remote flow dial. The voltage should change smoothly without dropping out or spiking. If it jumps erratically, the potentiometer has an internal failure.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors inside the armrest console between the flow potentiometer and the Armrest Controller Module (ACM). Look for pinched wires, loose pins, or corrosion.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws holding the right-hand armrest console cover/housing in place.

  3. Locate the Component

Identify the specific potentiometer for the 4th auxiliary remote valve flow control (usually a rotary dial/knob).

  4. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the back of the faulty potentiometer.

  5. Remove

Pull off the external control knob. Remove the retaining nut, spacer, or spring washer securing the potentiometer to the armrest panel, and pull the unit out.

  6. Install

Insert the new OEM potentiometer into the panel, secure it with the retaining hardware, and press the control knob back onto the shaft.

  7. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector into the new potentiometer.

  8. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest console cover and secure all screws.

  9. Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes, and test the 4th remote valve flow adjustment to ensure the code does not return.
