Case IH 116-03 - DEC – DEC: Brake Application Pressure - Voltage Above Normal, or Shorted to High Source
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the service brake pressure sensor that exceeds the maximum valid threshold (typically above 4.5V or 4.75V on a 5V reference circuit). This is typically caused by the sensor's signal wire shorting to battery power, an open circuit on the sensor's ground wire, or an internal sensor failure.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the service brake pressure sensor for chafing, melting, or pinch points. Check the connector for water intrusion, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Disconnect the sensor and turn the key ON (engine off). Measure the voltage at the signal pin on the harness side. If it reads 12V (battery voltage), there is a short to power in the harness that must be repaired.
Measure the resistance between the sensor ground pin on the harness and a known good chassis ground. It should be less than 5 ohms. An open ground will cause the voltage above normal condition.
If the 5V reference, ground, and signal wires test good on the harness side, the sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Depressurize the System
Pump the service brake pedal several times to relieve any residual hydraulic or pneumatic pressure in the brake lines to prevent injury or fluid/air loss.
Locate the Sensor
Find the service brake pressure sensor (often located on the pneumatic trailer brake valve block or the main service brake valve assembly).
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical connector. Use a wrench to carefully unthread the sensor from the port. Have a rag ready to catch any minor fluid drips if it is a hydraulic sensor.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM sensor into the port. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can damage the sensor diaphragm).
Reconnect and Clear
Plug in the electrical connector. Turn the key ON, and use the tractor's diagnostic menu or a scan tool to clear the 116-03 DEC fault code.
Test
Start the engine, allow brake pressure to build, and test the service brakes to ensure proper operation and verify that the code does not return.
