Case IH 116 – Armrest Controller: Aux 5th remote valve FLOW potentiometer has failed
Issue description
The controller has detected that the electrical signal from the rotary dial (potentiometer) controlling the hydraulic flow rate for the 5th auxiliary remote valve is out of its expected voltage or resistance range (e.g., open circuit, shorted to ground, or shorted to power).

Check the cause
Check the main wiring harness connector (e.g., C137) to the armrest controller to ensure it is correctly installed, fully seated, and free of bent pins or corrosion.
Inspect the Tractor Data Bus (TDB) wires, as well as the power and ground wires feeding the armrest controller, for chafing or breaks.
Test the potentiometer with a multimeter (if board is accessible). A healthy potentiometer tests around 2.7k ohms from the center pin to either outside pin, and 0 ohms across the outside pins. An 'open' reading to the center pin confirms a failed component.
Check with a dealer to see if there is a software update available for the armrest controller to make it less sensitive to slight voltage variations.
Attempt to recalibrate the remote valves using the tractor's Pro 700 display or a dealer diagnostic tool.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.
Disassemble the Armrest
Remove the retaining screws securing the top cover of the armrest console to access the internal Armrest Controller (TMF) circuit board.
Locate the Component
Identify the specific flow control potentiometer for the 5th auxiliary remote valve on the control panel board.
Component vs. Board Replacement
Option A (Component Level): If you are skilled in electronics repair, you can desolder the faulty potentiometer from the board and solder in a matching replacement. Option B (Board Level): Because CNH typically does not sell the individual potentiometers, most dealer repairs involve replacing the entire Armrest Controller board.
Reassembly
Install the new armrest controller board (or repaired board) and carefully reconnect all harness connectors. Secure the armrest cover.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the Pro 700 display (or dealer tool) to perform a mandatory remote valve calibration so the system learns the new potentiometer's exact voltage range.
