Case IH 117 – Hitch Control Module / EDC / CCU / Armrest control module: L/H load sensing pin - signal too high

Issue description

The signal voltage returning from the Left-Hand draft load sensing pin on the rear hitch is exceeding the expected parameters. The underlying condition is typically a short circuit to a +12 volt source in the wiring harness, or an internal failure/short within the load sensing pin itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left-hand draft load sensing pin on the rear hitch. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinched areas that could cause a short to +12V.

  2. Disconnect the L/H pin and inspect the connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins which can bridge circuits and cause high voltage readings.

  3. Check the reference voltage at the connector. The system typically operates on an 8V reference signal. Ensure the module is not sending excessive voltage.

  4. Swap the left and right pins (if identical). If the code changes to 1015 ('R/H load sensing pin - signal too high'), the pin itself has failed internally. If the code remains 1017, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the CCU.

Repair steps

  1. Locate draft pins

    Locate the L/H and R/H draft load sensing pins on the rear hitch assembly.

  2. Disconnect wiring harness

    Unplug the wiring harness connectors from both the left and right draft pins.

  3. Install elimination modules

    Plug the two electronic load sensing elimination modules (dummy plugs provided in the kit) directly into the tractor's wiring harness.

  4. Secure wiring

    Secure the new modules and the loose wiring to the tractor chassis using tie wraps to prevent them from catching on moving hitch components.

  5. Verify repair and clear codes

    Turn the tractor on. The diagnosis system will no longer detect the defective pins, draft sensing will be permanently disabled, and the 1017 error code will clear. (Note: If draft control is strictly required for operations, you must install a replacement OEM draft pin instead, reconnect the harness, and perform a hydraulic lift autocalibration).
