Case IH 12013 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Communications Lost with Data Bus and ALL other controllers
Issue description
This indicates a critical network failure where the module logging the code has completely lost its ability to transmit or receive messages on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. It is isolated from the rest of the machine's electronic systems.

Check the cause
Verify battery voltage is within spec (12V+). Low voltage can cause modules to drop off the network.
Check the fuses and relays supplying the Armrest Controller. Use a multimeter to verify strong power and clean ground at the ARM harness connector.
With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. 120 ohms indicates a missing terminating resistor or open circuit; near 0 ohms indicates a shorted bus.
Inspect the main harness routing from the cab armrest down to the main tractor chassis for pinch points, rodent damage, or chafing. Disconnect the ARM connector and check for bent, pushed-back, or corroded pins.

Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing CAN bus components or unplugging ECUs.
Isolate the Fault
If the CAN bus resistance test fails, begin isolating segments of the bus by unplugging other controllers one by one (Engine ECU, Transmission TCU, etc.) to see if the resistance returns to normal. If unplugging a specific module fixes the bus, that module or its immediate wiring is shorting the network.
Repair Wiring
If a break or short is found in the CAN High (yellow) or CAN Low (green) wires between the ARM and the main bus splice, repair the wiring using OEM-approved twisted-pair splicing techniques.
Replace the Armrest Controller
If power, ground, and CAN bus continuity to the ARM connector are all verified as good, the internal CAN transceiver in the Armrest Controller has likely failed. Remove the armrest trim panels, disconnect the multi-pin connectors, and unbolt the module.
Reassembly and Calibration
Install the new Armrest Controller. Reconnect the battery. You will likely need a Case IH EST (Electronic Service Tool) laptop to flash the correct software to the new module and perform mandatory calibrations for the potentiometers, hitch controls, and transmission linkages.
