Case IH 12017 - EPL – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) controller: Power stage supply failure

The internal service voltage required to operate the power stage (which drives the electronic park lock actuator motor) is missing, out of range, or failing internally within the module.

   Inspect connectors (X012, X036, X121, X745) and wiring for corrosion, pushed pins, or wire chafing.

   Verify the EPL module is receiving proper battery voltage and has a clean ground.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic H-menu (using diagnostic test switch tool 380000843 if necessary) to monitor circuit voltages for sudden drops (menu H9) and perform a switch operation test (menu H5).

   Disconnect Battery

   Always disconnect the battery before servicing the EPL system to prevent accidental actuation or short circuits.

   Inspect and Test the Relay

   Locate the electronic parking brake relay (X036). Test the relay for proper switching and resistance. Replace the relay if it is sticking or burnt.

   Repair Harness

   If testing reveals a short or open circuit in the wiring harness leading to the X745 EPL connector, repair the damaged wires or replace the connector housing/pins.

   Replace the EPL Module

   If the wiring, relay, and external power supply are all verified as good, the 12017 code indicates an internal failure of the EPL controller's power stage. The EPL actuator/controller module must be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   After repair, enter the diagnostic H-menu. Navigate to menu HC to clear all stored fault codes from the EPL controller.

   Calibrate the EPL

   If the EPL module is replaced, you must perform a calibration. Use the H-menu to calibrate the applied and released positions of the park lock (the display will show "M" during the process, and "EPL applied" when finished).
