Case IH 12019 – Electronic Park Lock (EPL): Power stage – current over dynamic set point

Electrical motor current higher than requested. The electrical motor responsible for engaging/disengaging the parking brake is drawing more amperage than the system's dynamic adjustment parameters allow, typically caused by a mechanical bind, short circuit, or failing power stage.

   Use the diagnostic 'H' menu mode (accessed via diagnostic test switch 380000843) to verify the active fault and check for related EPL codes like 12018 or 12020

   Inspect the switch connectors of the electronic parking brake (X036, X121, X745) and the brake relay (X012)

   Check the wiring harness leading to the EPL actuator for chafing, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery voltage

   Check the physical park lock mechanism for mechanical binding, as a jammed or stiff linkage will cause the actuator motor to work harder and trigger the current spike

   Secure the tractor

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface and securely chock the wheels, as you will be disabling the parking brake system.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental short circuits or uncommanded actuator movement.

   Locate actuator

   Locate the Electronic Park Lock actuator assembly on the transmission housing.

   Inspect electrical harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the actuator and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or burning.

   Remove actuator

   Unbolt and remove the EPL actuator assembly from the transmission.

   Inspect and repair mechanical linkage

   Manually actuate the internal mechanical linkage of the park lock. If it is binding, clean, lubricate, or repair the mechanical components as necessary.

   Replace actuator assembly

   If the mechanical linkage moves freely, the fault lies within the EPL actuator motor itself (internal short or worn motor brushes). Replace the EPL actuator assembly.

   Install new actuator

   Install the new EPL actuator and bolt it to the transmission housing.

   Reconnect electrical components

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

    Test operation

    Turn the key switch ON, move the FNR (Forward/Neutral/Reverse) lever, and press the neutral button to cycle the electric motor. Listen for smooth operation.

    Clear codes and calibrate

    Clear the fault codes using the diagnostic 'H' menu or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and perform any required EPL calibrations.
