Case IH 1207 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / VCM (Vehicle Control Module): Memory Parameter - Invalid Configuration Between IC and VCM

Issue description

There is a mismatch in the machine configuration data stored between the two primary computers (Instrument Cluster and Universal Control Module). This triggers an amber warning light and typically occurs if a module was recently replaced, swapped from a donor machine, or incorrectly flashed during a software update.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • SR130
  • SR160
  • SR175
  • SR200
  • SR220
  • SR250
  • SV185
  • SV250
  • SV300
  • SV340
  • TR270
  • TR320
  • TV380

Check the cause

  1. Determine if the Instrument Cluster or the UCM was recently replaced, or if the machine was recently serviced by a dealer who may have performed a software update.

  2. Check if the machine is exhibiting incorrect hydraulic speeds or drive behaviors, which is a common symptom of a module thinking it is installed in a different machine model.

  3. Look for CAN communication timeout codes (like 1206 - CAN Connection Configuration Response Timeout) which might indicate a wiring issue rather than a programming mismatch.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the Case Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Power On

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine) to wake up the electronics.

  3. Read Configurations

Access the configuration settings for both the IC (Instrument Cluster) and the UCM (Universal Control Module).

  4. Identify the Mismatch

Compare the machine model, tire/track size, and auxiliary hydraulic options programmed into both modules. You will likely find that one module has the wrong machine model selected.

  5. Reprogram the Module

Using the EST, re-flash or reconfigure the incorrect module so that its parameters perfectly match the actual physical machine and the other module.

  6. Reboot and Verify

Turn the key off, wait for the electronics to completely power down, and turn the machine back on. Verify that fault code 1207 has changed from 'Active' to 'Inactive' and clear the code history.
