Issue description
The control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit responsible for the mid-range clutch solenoid. This usually points to an internal short inside the solenoid coil itself, or a wiring harness issue where the solenoid's control wire is rubbing against a 12V power source. When this occurs, the transmission cannot properly modulate the mid-range clutch, resulting in a loss of specific gears or a disabled transmission to prevent mechanical damage.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the mid-range clutch solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to a 12V power source.
Disconnect the mid-range clutch solenoid and check the connector pins for corrosion, fluid intrusion (oil inside the connector), or bent terminals.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the mid-range clutch solenoid using a multimeter. A reading near zero ohms indicates the coil is internally shorted.
With the solenoid and the Transmission Controller (TCU) disconnected, test the signal wire for continuity to power.
If the solenoid coil tests OK and the wiring harness shows no shorts, verify the Transmission Controller (TCU) for an internal failure.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the key switch.
Ensure the machine is safely parked before beginning repairs.
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
This protects the electrical system during the repair.
Locate the transmission control valve block (powershift valve stack) on the transmission housing.
Identify the specific solenoid for the Mid-Range clutch (refer to the specific model's hydraulic/electrical schematic, as position varies by series).
Unplug the electrical connector from the mid-range clutch solenoid.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty solenoid.
Clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Ensure no contaminants enter the valve block during removal.
Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts securing the solenoid coil/cartridge to the valve block.
Unbolt the solenoid from the manifold.
Pull the faulty solenoid valve out of the manifold.
Remove the old solenoid completely.
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid.
This ensures a proper seal when installing the new part.
Install the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten the retaining nut/bolts to the OEM torque specification.
Secure the new solenoid in place.
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid.
Plug the connector back into the solenoid.
Reconnect the battery.
Restore power to the tractor.
Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or a dealer service tool) to clear the inactive fault codes.
Clear the fault code 121 from the system memory.
Perform a transmission clutch calibration.
Crucial Final Step: Often accessed via the H-Menu on MX/MXM series. The TCU must learn the fill times and engagement characteristics of the new solenoid to ensure smooth shifting and prevent clutch slippage.
