12127

Case IH 12127 – TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit) or Cab Controller: APM - present but not configured

Issue description

The tractor's network (CAN bus) detects the physical presence or signals of the APM (Automatic Productivity Management) feature/module, but the vehicle's central configuration software is not programmed to recognize or utilize it.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma series
  • Magnum series
  • Optum series
  • Vestrum series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the tractor was factory-equipped with the APM feature by checking the AFS Pro 700/1200 display or Multicontroller armrest for APM Auto Road/Auto Field buttons.

  2. Check service history to determine if the TECU, Cab Controller, or AFS display was recently replaced, flashed, or reset (a wiped memory or incomplete software update is the most common cause).

  3. If the tractor does not have APM, inspect the CAN bus for communication errors or a short in the wiring harness that might be tricking the TECU into detecting a phantom module.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's 9-pin diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine).

  3. Open EST software

Open the EST software and navigate to the Vehicle Configuration or Controller Setup menu for the TECU/Cab Controller.

  4. Locate APM setting

Scroll through the options list to find APM (Automatic Productivity Management).

  5. Configure APM (if equipped)

If the tractor has APM: The setting will likely say 'Not Configured.' Change the drop-down menu to 'Configured' or 'Installed'.

  6. Configure APM (if not equipped)

If the tractor does NOT have APM: Ensure the setting is 'Not Present.' If the code persists, you may need to re-flash the TECU software to clear the glitch.

  7. Save changes

Save the configuration changes to the controller.

  8. Perform key cycle

Perform a complete key cycle (turn the key off, wait 30–60 seconds for the modules to power down completely, then turn it back on).

  9. Clear fault codes

Clear the inactive fault codes using the EST.

  10. Test drive

Test drive the tractor and engage the APM via the armrest controls to verify proper operation.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) / Cab Controller

Only required if the controller has suffered a hardware failure, cannot hold its programming, or is sending corrupted CAN signals. Exact part number depends on machine PIN/Serial Number.
