Case IH 1213 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / VCM (Vehicle Control Module): Loader Valve Calibration not Complete

Issue description

The machine's control module has not successfully learned the flow threshold current values (Pulse Width Modulation or PWM signals) required to accurately control the extend and retract functions of the electro-hydraulic (EHR) loader control valve. This code is triggered if a calibration procedure is interrupted, fails to complete, or if the controller's non-volatile memory loses power or becomes corrupted before the values are stored.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • Alpha Series Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Alpha Series Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • SR130
  • SR150
  • SR175
  • SR200
  • SR220
  • SR250
  • SV185
  • SV250
  • SV300
  • TR270
  • TR310
  • TR320
  • TR340
  • TV380

Check the cause

  1. Check for active electrical faults (such as voltage issues or open circuits) that would prevent the UCM from completing a calibration.

  2. Verify the hydraulic system is warmed up to normal operating temperature, as cold fluid can cause calibration failures.

  3. Check that engine RPM meets the prerequisites for calibration (e.g., above 1600 RPM).

  4. Inspect harness connections to ensure the UCM and the loader control valve have proper power and ground.

  5. Manually stroke the valve back and forth to clear any internal debris and test basic functionality before attempting electronic calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up the Machine

Start the machine and operate the hydraulics until the fluid reaches normal operating temperature.

  2. Prepare for Calibration

Ensure the machine is parked on level ground. If required by your specific model's manual, install articulation cylinder locking blocks before performing tests.

  3. Enter Calibration Mode

Access the calibration menu using the machine's advanced instrument cluster (e.g., AFS Pro display) or by connecting the Case Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the diagnostic port.

  4. Run the Calibration

Navigate to the EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) or Loader Valve calibration screen. Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the valve. The system will automatically stroke the valve to find the flow threshold current values for the extend and retract functions.

  5. Troubleshoot Failures

If the calibration fails the first time, manually stroke the valve back and forth for a while to free up any sticking spools, then attempt to calibrate the valve again.

  6. Save and Exit

Properly exit the calibration procedure using the display or EST before turning off the key or removing power from the controller. Failing to exit properly will prevent the UCM from saving the new values to memory, causing the 1213 code to return.
