Case IH 12133 - EPL – EPL (Electronic Park Lock) Module: CAN Bus Mute
Issue description
The EPL module has stopped communicating (is "silenced" or "muted") on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The main vehicle controllers are no longer receiving messages from this specific module.

Check the cause
Verify that the EPL module is receiving proper voltage and has a solid ground, checking for shorts to ground, cuts, or shorts to supply voltage on pins A4 or C7.
Check the dedicated EPL fuse (often a 30A fuse in a Delphi Metri-Pack 2-way connector) to ensure it hasn't blown.
Inspect the CAN High and CAN Low wiring at the EPL module's 24-way FCI SICMA connector for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.
Perform a voltmeter diagnostic on the CAN circuits to check for standard CAN voltages (typically around 2.5V to 2.7V on CAN High and 2.3V to 2.5V on CAN Low).
Verify if other modules are communicating on the CAN bus to rule out a central CAN bus short.
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the battery before servicing CAN bus components or unplugging modules.
Access the EPL Module
Locate the Electronic Park Lock module (Module XA) on the tractor.
Repair Wiring/Connectors
If diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a blown fuse, repair the harness using appropriate heat-shrink splices or replace the 30A fuse. Re-pin the 24-way connector if corrosion is found.
Replace the EPL Module
If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN bus integrity are all good but the module remains 'mute,' disconnect the 24-way connector, unbolt the module, and install the replacement.
Perform EPL Calibration
Navigate to the EPL calibration menu (often accessed via the 'H' menu on the instrument cluster/display). Follow the on-screen prompts using the 'h' and 'm' buttons to calibrate the applied and released positions of the park lock until the display shows 'donE'.
