Case IH 12147 – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) controller / Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): Fault on CAN message (engine RPM signal)

This code triggers when the engine RPM data, which is broadcasted by the Engine Control Module (ECM), is missing, corrupted, or not received over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus.

   Check the Instrument Cluster: Observe the dash while the engine is running. If the engine RPM (tachometer) is reading zero or behaving erratically, the issue is likely the Engine Speed Sensor itself (or its direct wiring to the ECM) failing to generate the signal.

   Check for Accompanying CAN Codes: Look for other active CAN bus codes (e.g., 12132 CAN - bus off, 12133 CAN - mute, or 12148 CAN - VCU_KEY error). Multiple CAN codes indicate a broader CAN network failure rather than a specific RPM signal issue.

   Use the 'H' Menu Diagnostics: Enter the tractor's onboard diagnostic mode via the instrument cluster. Navigate to the EPL (XA) sub-menu. Use menu HB to view stored fault codes and menu H9 for voltmeter diagnostics to check the controller's inputs.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the CAN High and CAN Low wiring between the Engine ECM and the EPL controller for chafing, corrosion, or loose connector pins.

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position.
