Case IH 12151 – EPL (Electronic Park Lock) Controller: Logic core – second microprocessor not present
Issue description
This code indicates an internal hardware or logic failure within the control module, specifically that the primary processor cannot communicate with or detect the secondary microprocessor.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- Puma Series: 140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, 240 (CVX / FPS / SPS)
- Magnum Series: 180, 190, 210, 225, 255, 285 (CVT and Powershift)
- Maxxum Series: 100-140
- Optum Series: 300 CVX
- Vestrum Series
- Steiger Series
Check the cause
Verify that the tractor's batteries are fully charged and holding proper voltage. A dead battery or severe voltage drop during cranking can cause the EPL module to lose its memory or fail to boot its secondary processor properly.
Enter the tractor's diagnostic 'H-Menu' using the instrument cluster switches (navigate to the XA module).
Go to menu H8 to clear stored calibration information and EEPROM fault codes.
Cycle the key. Go to menu HB to display stored fault codes. If 12151 returns immediately, the EPL controller has suffered a hard internal failure and must be replaced or sent out for remanufacture.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate and Remove the EPL Module
Locate the Electronic Park Lock actuator/controller. Disconnect the main wiring harness connector from the module.
Dismount
Remove the mounting hardware securing the EPL module to the bracket and remove the faulty unit.
Install New Module
Mount the replacement EPL module and securely tighten the hardware. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Restore Power
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Calibration
A new EPL module will not function until it is calibrated. Park the tractor on a flat, open surface.
Run H1 Calibration
Enter the H-Menu, navigate to the XA module, and select menu H1 (Calibration procedures). You will need to calibrate the EPL applied position, the released position, and the internal accelerometer following the on-screen prompts (using the 'h' and 'm' buttons to confirm positions). Alternatively, this can be done using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop software.
