Case IH 12162 - EPL – EPL (Electronic Park Lock) Controller: Fault on EPL Temperature Reading
Issue description
The internal temperature sensor within the Electronic Park Lock (EPL) Actuator Control Unit (ACU) is reporting a temperature value that is outside of the normal operating parameters, or the controller is detecting erratic voltage spikes from the sensor circuit.

Check the cause
Check the tractor's battery and charging system voltage (should be between 10V and 16V) to rule out voltage spikes causing erratic readings.
Inspect the main harness connector to the EPL actuator (near the transmission/rear axle) for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.
View and clear codes via the H-Menu (XA module, menu HB to view, HC to clear) and cycle the key to see if the code returns immediately.
Repair steps
Secure the Tractor
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Since you will be disabling the electronic park lock, you must physically chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling.
Remove the Actuator
Disconnect the electrical harness from the EPL actuator. Unbolt the actuator assembly from its mounting bracket on the transmission housing and remove it.
Install the New Actuator
Mount the replacement EPL actuator and torque the bolts to OEM spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Perform EPL Calibration
Enter the diagnostic mode and navigate to the XA module, then select the H1 menu (display will show 'CAL'). Use the 'h' and 'm' buttons on the instrument cluster to toggle between 'Inc' (Accelerometer/Inclinometer calibration) and 'SC' (Stroke Calibration for applied/released positions). Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate both until the lower display shows 'donE'.
