12192

Case IH 12192 – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) controller: Fault On Shuttle Park Switch Line

Issue description

The controller is receiving an illogical, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal (0 to 5V) from the park position switch located inside the Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park (FNRP) shuttle lever assembly. The system cannot verify if the tractor is safely in the Park position.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Puma Series (125, 130, 140, 150, 165, 185, 195, 210, 225, 230, 240)
  • Case IH Magnum Series (235-370)
  • Case IH Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the Lever: Rapidly cycle the shuttle lever through Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park to free temporarily stuck internal switch contacts.

  2. On-Board Switch Diagnostics: Access the tractor's H1 / HB diagnostic menu to monitor the 'Shuttle lever park switch' voltage (0 to 5V) and verify if the display recognizes the lever moving in and out of Park.

  3. Inspect the X012 Connector: Remove the steering column shroud and inspect pins 9 (Orange wire) and 10 (Blue wire) on the X012 Shuttle Lever connector for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.

  4. Test the EPL Harness: Check for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to the 12V/5V supply voltage between the shuttle lever connector and the EPL module (pins A4 or C7).

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove the Steering Wheel

Remove the center cap and the main retaining nut, then pull the steering wheel off the steering column.

  3. Remove Column Shrouds

Unscrew and remove the plastic steering column covers to expose the gear selector/shuttle lever assembly.

  4. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the X012 wiring harness connector from the base of the shuttle lever.

  5. Remove the Lever

Remove the mounting fasteners holding the shuttle lever assembly to the steering column and slide the faulty unit out.

  6. Install the New Part

Mount the new shuttle lever assembly, secure the fasteners, and plug in the X012 wiring harness.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the steering column covers and the steering wheel.

  8. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the stored 12192 fault code. Shift through all positions to ensure the dash display correctly highlights Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park.
