Case IH 12212 – EPL (Electronic Park Lock) Controller or XCM (Braking System / Universal Controller): Factory – Accelerometer not calibrated / EPL orientation not configured
Issue description
The accelerometer sensor, which monitors the tractor's orientation and movement for the Electronic Park Lock (EPL) system, has lost its calibration values or was never initialized.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Puma series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH Farmall models equipped with CVT/EPL
Check the cause
Check for companion codes such as 12043 (Accelerometer Self Test Failed) or 12213 (Actuator not initialised) which indicate physical sensor damage
Verify if the electronic park lock engages and disengages properly to ensure basic mechanical functionality
Ensure the tractor is parked on a hard, perfectly level surface free of obstructions with the ground speed display reading exactly zero
Repair steps
Park and secure tractor
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface away from obstacles. Firmly apply the parking brake and block the front and rear wheels.
Disconnect implements
Disconnect all implements from the rear of the tractor.
Install diagnostic connector
Ensure the key is OFF. Install the CNH diagnostic connector (part number 380000843) into the diagnostic socket if required by your specific model's service manual.
Access calibration menu
Turn the key to the ON position while holding the 'Prog' (Program) key to access the calibration menu on the A-post display.
Navigate to calibration
Navigate to the EPL / Accelerometer calibration section.
Perform calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the applied and released positions. Hold the 'm' button to calibrate the released position until the display shows 'M'. Release the 'm' button. Follow the prompt to move the control upwards until the 'EPL applied' symbol is displayed.
Save calibration values
Turn off the key and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting the tractor to allow the XCM/EPL module to save the new calibration values. If the code cannot be cleared after multiple attempts, the accelerometer has failed internally and must be replaced.
