12213

Case IH 12213 – Universal Controller / Vehicle Control Module (XCM): Factory – actuator not initialised

Issue description

The Electronic Park Lock (EPL) system has lost its calibration or initialization memory. This condition almost always occurs when the tractor's battery goes completely dead, is disconnected for maintenance, or experiences a severe voltage drop. The electronic parking brake will not release when the tractor is put into gear until the system is recalibrated.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Test the battery voltage to ensure it is fully charged (12.6V+ resting).

  2. Check the battery terminals and ground cables to ensure they are clean and tight.

  3. Verify the alternator/charging system is functioning properly so the voltage does not drop again.

Repair steps

  1. Ensure the tractor has a fully charged battery.

  2. Depress and hold both brake pedals firmly.

  3. Release the hand brake.

Push the hand brake lever down.

  4. Turn the ignition key to the ON / RUN position.

    Do not start the engine.

  5. Place the Forward/Reverse (F/R) shift lever into the Neutral position.

  6. Press the Neutral button on the shifter handle.

You should hear/feel the brake activate and release.

  7. Place the F/R shift lever back into Park.

The park brake will apply, and the 12213 code should clear.
