Case IH 12214 - EPL – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) Controller (XA module): Factory - Disable actuation
Issue description
This code indicates that the Electronic Park Lock (EPL) actuator has been disabled because the controller is in an unconfigured 'factory' state or has lost its initialization/calibration memory. This most commonly occurs when the tractor's battery goes completely dead, is disconnected, or experiences a severe low-voltage event.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma Series (140, 150, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, 240 CVX/CVT)
- Magnum Series (180, 190, 200, 210, 225 CVT/PST)
- Optum Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series (CVT models)
Check the cause
Test the battery under load and clean/tighten all battery terminals and ground cables, as this code is almost always triggered by voltage loss.
Look for related accompanying codes such as 12213 (Factory - actuator not initialised), U114 (Handbrake switch incongruence), or U115 (Shuttle lever not in park position).
Verify that the shuttle lever is firmly in the Park position.
Cycle the clutch pedal and listen for the audible click of the clutch switch, ensuring it hasn't backed out or become misaligned.
Repair steps
Perform operator reinitialization
Sit in the operator seat, press and hold both brake pedals firmly, and release the hand brake. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position, place the shuttle/shift lever into the Neutral position, and press the Neutral button on the shifter handle. The brake should release, and the code should clear.
Prepare for formal EPL calibration
If the quick reinitialization fails, a full calibration is required. Park the tractor on a flat, open surface. Ensure the handbrake is released and the shuttle lever is in the Park position.
Execute EPL calibration via H-Menu
Enter the diagnostic H-Menu using diagnostic tool 380000843 or the integrated display buttons. Navigate to the XA (EPL) module and select H1 - Calibration procedures. Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the applied position, the released position, and the accelerometer.
Replace EPL actuator
If the actuator has mechanically failed or the controller is internally shorted, it must be replaced. Note: A new actuator will immediately throw code 12214 until the formal calibration (Step 3) is performed.
