Case IH 123 – MCC (Machine Control Cluster) or MIU (Machine Interface Unit): Model received does not match the model stored the first time the controller was powered up
Issue description
This is a configuration and communication error. When a control module is powered up for the first time, it stores the specific machine model's configuration in its Non-Volatile Memory (NVM). Code 2378 triggers when the controller receives a model identifier over the CAN bus that contradicts the original model it was programmed for. This typically happens if a module was swapped from a different machine, if the display/monitor was replaced without proper configuration, or if there is a CAN bus data collision.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- STX Steiger
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Puma
- Early Riser planters
Check the cause
Verify Module History: Determine if the MCC, MIU, or the main cab display was recently replaced or swapped from a donor machine
Check CAN Bus Communication: Ensure there are no active CAN bus communication errors (such as codes 9000 or 9002) which might be corrupting the model identifier signal
Software Version Check: Verify that the software on the Display matches the implement/tractor and is not corrupted (checking for related codes like 1000 or 1001)
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Navigate to configuration
Navigate to the controller configuration menu for the MCC/MIU.
Wipe and reprogram module
If a module was recently installed from another machine, it must be wiped and reprogrammed to match the current machine's model configuration.
Push configuration file
Push the correct machine configuration file from the EST to the controller to overwrite the mismatched NVM data.
Cycle power and clear code
Cycle the key power. Re-scan the system to ensure Code 2378 changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive' and clear the code. Note: If the controller is hardware-locked to its original model, a blank, virgin OEM controller must be installed and programmed.
Parts you might need
(1)Electronic Control Unit (MCC or MIU Controller)
Varies strictly by specific tractor/planter model and serial number. Must be purchased as a 'blank' module from a Case IH dealer and flashed via CNH EST upon installation.
