Case IH 125 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller or AUX (Remote Auxiliary) Controller: Aux 1st Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts

Issue description

The control module is detecting an unexpected 12-volt high signal on the circuit responsible for the "raise" function of the first auxiliary remote hydraulic valve. This is typically caused by a wiring harness chafing against a power source, a failed interlock relay, or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • MX Magnum Series
  • TG Series
  • STX Steiger Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • Axial-Flow Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear 1st auxiliary remote valve block for pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing.

  2. Disconnect the harness at the 1st Aux Raise solenoid and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or debris bridging the contacts.

  3. Test the harness side with a multimeter (key ON, engine OFF) to see if 12 volts is constantly present on the signal wire without the operator commanding the valve (indicates a harness short).

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to determine if it has failed internally (shorted).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the 1st auxiliary remote valve assembly at the rear hydraulic block of the tractor.

  3. Address Wiring

If the diagnostic tests revealed a harness short, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical plug from the 1st Raise solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or clip holding the solenoid coil to the proportional valve stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM replacement solenoid onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  5. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's armrest monitor/diagnostic menu (or an electronic service tool) to clear the TMF/AUX fault codes. Cycle the 1st remote valve to ensure the code does not return.
