125

Case IH 125 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCU): Odd clutch is not calibrated.

Issue description

The transmission controller does not have a valid calibration value (measured in milliamperes) stored for the Odd Clutch solenoid. This typically happens if a calibration procedure was aborted, memory was lost, or a component was replaced without a subsequent calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 290
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum Series 4
  • MX210
  • MX215
  • MX230
  • MX245
  • MX255
  • MX275
  • MX285
  • MX305
  • STX / Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for active electrical faults (e.g., TRANS 103 or TRANS 115) for the Odd Clutch, as the controller will fail calibration if an electrical issue is present

  2. Verify the transmission fluid is warmed up to the optimum calibration temperature range of 60°C to 105°C (140°F - 221°F)

  3. Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface in an open area free of obstacles and engage the parking brake, as the machine may move automatically during calibration

Repair steps

  1. Warm transmission oil

Warm the transmission oil to at least 60°C (140°F).

  2. Access configuration menu

Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter (or Program) key on the keypad/A-post display.

  3. Navigate to clutch calibration

When the CONFIG MENU displays, use the down arrow key to highlight TCU and press Enter. Arrow down to the ETC MENU and press Enter, then arrow down to TRANS SETUP and press Enter. Select Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) and press Enter.

  4. Verify temperature and initiate calibration

The screen will display Oil Deg (current hydraulic fluid temperature). If the temperature is within the 60-105°C range, press Enter to continue. Increase engine RPM above 1100 RPM and shift the shuttle lever into Forward when prompted.

  5. Complete calibration sequence

Allow the transmission controller to automatically run through the Odd clutch calibration. When complete, the screen will display *Odd mA with the calibration value. Press Enter/Program to continue through the rest of the clutch packs (Even, C1, C2, etc.).

  6. Save and exit

Crucial Step: When finished, do not simply hit reset or turn the key off. Scroll through the menus until you find EXIT, and press Enter/Program to properly back out of the menus and save the new calibration values.

  7. Contact Central Support Service

If the fault code still appears after the Odd clutch is properly calibrated, contact Central Support Service (which generally points to a mechanical failure in the clutch pack or a sticking solenoid valve).

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Odd Clutch Solenoid

Often located on the Powershift Valve block, Connector No. 29 on MX series. Look up 'Powershift Valve Odd/Even Solenoid' in the CNH parts catalog specific to the tractor's PIN/Serial Number.
