Case IH 12515 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / ABS / EBM: eXBR1 status not plausible
Issue description
The control module is receiving an implausible state, status, or signal from the eXBR1 (which relates to the external/electronic brake request system or trailer braking communication over the CAN bus).
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Case IH tractors
- Case IH Puma
- Case IH Optum
Check the cause
Check for companion CAN codes (e.g., 12702, 12708, 12709) that might pinpoint eXBR1 communication errors
Verify module configuration to ensure the ABS or trailer braking system is correctly configured in the software (look for code 12500)
Inspect CAN bus wiring lines connecting the UCM and the Electronic Braking Module for corrosion, loose pins, or moisture
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Read stored codes
Read all stored codes in the UCM and EBM to see if the eXBR1 plausibility error is accompanied by a hard CAN failure (like 12709).
Inspect wiring harness
Inspect the wiring harness at the Electronic Braking Module for damaged wires or poor pin fitment.
Verify EOL configuration
Verify the tractor's End-Of-Line (EOL) configuration to ensure the eXBR1 (electronic brake) parameters match the physical hardware installed on the tractor.
Clear codes and test
Clear the fault codes and perform a test drive/brake application to verify if the eXBR1 status returns to a plausible state.
