Case IH 12521 – Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) or Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): Inconsistent air and hydraulic pressure on the right AoH
Issue description
The system's sensors are detecting a mismatch or inconsistency between the pneumatic (air) pressure input and the hydraulic pressure output specifically on the right-side Air-over-Hydraulic converter/actuator.

Check the cause
Check the pneumatic and hydraulic pressure sensors on the right AoH converter. Ensure the wiring harnesses and connectors are intact, free of corrosion, and not shorting out.
Inspect the right AoH converter and associated lines for audible air leaks or visible hydraulic fluid leaks. A leak on either side of the converter will cause a pressure mismatch.
Verify that the left and right brake pedal switches are functioning correctly and sending consistent electronic signals to the TECU, as pedal faults can sometimes trigger secondary AoH codes.
Verify that the tractor's main air compressor is delivering adequate supply pressure and that the hydraulic brake reservoir is at the correct level.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Deplete all air pressure from the pneumatic system by pumping the brakes or using the air tank drain valves. Relieve hydraulic pressure and disconnect the battery.
Access the Component
Remove the front wheels to gain proper access to the Air-over-Hydraulic (AoH) converter bracket. Warning: Use heavy lifting equipment with adequate capacity to support the tractor when removing wheels.
Disconnect Lines
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the right AoH pressure sensors.
Remove Hoses
Disconnect the pneumatic supply lines and the hydraulic brake lines from the right AoH valve. Cap all hydraulic lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and system contamination.
Removal
Remove the mounting bolts securing the right AoH converter to the bracket and carefully extract the unit.
Installation
Mount the new right AoH converter to the bracket. Reconnect all pneumatic and hydraulic lines, ensuring fittings are torqued to spec. Reconnect the electrical sensor harnesses.
Bleeding
Bleed the hydraulic brake system to remove any trapped air introduced during the valve replacement.
Reassembly & Testing
Reinstall the front wheels, reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and allow the air system to build pressure. Test the brakes to ensure the 12521 code clears and that there are no leaks.
