12526

Case IH 12526 – Braking System (XCM) or Chassis Control Module (CCM): Left brake pedal switch fault – electrical signals are inconsistent

Issue description

The left brake pedal switch is providing inconsistent electrical signals to the control system. This typically means the system is receiving conflicting states (e.g., the switch is reading both open and closed simultaneously, or the signal does not match the expected voltage parameters or the state of the right brake pedal).

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum Series (51, 52, and MX series)
  • C and CX Series (C50-C90, CX50-CX100)
  • CS and CVX Series (CS78-CS150, CVX1135-CVX195)
  • Puma Series (e.g., Puma 200)
  • JX and Quantum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect physical linkage for dirt or debris under the brake pedal where it passes through the firewall.

  2. Perform a pedal synchronization test with the engine off to ensure pedals move smoothly to the floor without binding.

  3. Check the brake pedal switch adjustment to verify it is not misadjusted.

  4. Perform a continuity test on the switch using a multimeter to ensure it correctly opens and closes.

  5. Turn the key on and check the left-hand brake switch for 12-volt power to verify wiring integrity.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Linkage

If debris is found, use a good light, compressed air, and a long flat screwdriver to thoroughly clean the area under the brake pedal linkage.

  2. Adjust the Switch

If the switch is intact but out of alignment, adjust the switch mounting so that the pedal activator properly depresses the plunger on the switch.

  3. Replace the Switch

If the switch fails the continuity test or is physically broken, disconnect the wiring harness, unbolt the faulty switch, and install a new OEM replacement.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the 12-volt power check failed, trace the circuit back to the fuse panel and repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  5. Clear Codes

Cycle the controller power or use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code from the CCM/XCM.
