Case IH 12545 – XCM (Central Control Module): Pedal latch switch open circuit/short to GND

The electrical circuit monitoring the brake pedal latch switch has lost continuity (an open circuit, such as a broken wire or unplugged connector) or the voltage is being incorrectly routed to the chassis ground (a short to ground).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running to the brake pedal latch switch for obvious signs of chafing, cut wires, or disconnected plugs

   Using a multimeter, check the specific circuit pins for the brake pedal latch switch (identified in some schematics as connecting to the XCM at pin CN3A-17) for continuity and test against chassis ground for shorts

   Test the brake pedal latch switch itself for proper mechanical latching and electrical continuity when engaged and disengaged

   Ensure the tractor's battery voltage is sufficient, as low voltage can sometimes trigger phantom electrical codes

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the negative battery cable before performing electrical repairs or testing on the tractor to prevent damage to the XCM or other modules.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the brake pedal latch switch, which is mounted near the brake pedal assembly in the cab.

   Test and Isolate

   Unplug the switch connector. Test the switch side for proper operation. If the switch fails the continuity test when mechanically actuated, the switch is the culprit.

   Harness Repair

   If the switch tests fine, the fault lies in the wiring harness between the switch and the XCM. Trace the harness to locate the break or short to ground. Splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire.

   Reassembly and Clearing Codes

   Reconnect the switch and the battery. Turn the key on and use a diagnostic tool (or perform a cycle test) to clear the active/pending fault codes and verify that code 12545 does not return.
