12585

Case IH 12585 – Trailer Brake Control Module (iTBV): iTBV dataset not compatible with the vehicle configuration

Issue description

There is a software or configuration mismatch between the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve (iTBV) and the tractor's main End of Line (EOL) configuration. The dataset programmed into the iTBV module does not align with the parameters the vehicle's main controller expects for the installed trailer brake system.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • AFS Connect Magnum series (Models 180-380)
  • Puma
  • Farmall

Check the cause

  1. Check the tractor's End of Line (EOL) configuration using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see what trailer brake setup the main controller expects.

  2. Verify the software version and dataset currently loaded onto the iTBV module.

  3. Check for related configuration codes in the iTBV stack (e.g., 12587, 12588, 12589) that might pinpoint the issue.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to programming menu

Navigate to the controller programming and configuration menu.

  3. Compare dataset and configuration

Compare the iTBV dataset with the vehicle's EOL configuration.

  4. Reprogram the iTBV

Flash the iTBV with the correct dataset that matches the tractor's specific build and EOL configuration. (Alternatively, if a new iTBV was recently installed, ensure the vehicle's EOL configuration is updated to recognize it).

  5. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes from the Trailer Brake stack.

  6. Verify repair

Cycle the key power and verify that fault code 12585 does not return.

Parts you might need
