Case IH 12587 – Cab Control Module (CCM): iTBV present but not configured

The Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve (iTBV) is physically installed on the tractor and is successfully communicating on the CAN bus, but the vehicle's software End of Line (EOL) configuration dataset does not have the iTBV feature enabled.

   Visually inspect the rear of the tractor and the hydraulic/pneumatic lines to confirm that the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve is actually installed on the machine.

   Check for related codes that might indicate a broader configuration or communication issue, such as 12585, 12586, or 12589.

   Review the tractor's original build sheet to see if it left the factory with the iTBV option. If the valve was added as an aftermarket kit or during a repair, the software must be updated to match.

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

   Establish communication

   Turn the ignition key to the ON position to establish communication with the CCM and Braking stack.

   Navigate to EOL menu

   Navigate to the End of Line (EOL) Configuration or Vehicle Dataset programming menu.

   Configure iTBV setting

   Locate the Trailer Braking parameters. Change the iTBV setting from 'Not Configured' to 'Configured' (or 'Present') to match the physical hardware.

   Flash dataset

   Flash/download the updated dataset to the vehicle's control modules.

   Perform key cycle

   Perform a key cycle (turn the tractor off, wait for the ECUs to power down, and turn it back on).

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the fault codes and verify that code 12587 does not return.

   Test system

   Test the trailer brake system to ensure the iTBV is functioning and equalizing braking force correctly.
