Case IH 126 – TRANS (Transmission Controller / TCU): Even clutch is not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission controller has lost the calibration value for the "Even" clutch, or a previous calibration attempt was aborted or unsuccessful. Without this calibration, the transmission cannot ensure smooth shifting and precise engagement.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., 7200 series, MX215–MX305, 235–340)
  • Case IH Steiger Series (e.g., 435, 450, 500, 550)
  • Case IH MX / TG Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for other active codes related to the Even clutch solenoid being shorted to ground or power (e.g., codes 105–124 or 2352), as these will prevent successful calibration

  2. Verify transmission oil temperature is warmed up to between 60 °C and 105 °C (140 °F - 221 °F) for optimum calibration results

  3. Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface in an open area free of obstacles with the parking brake engaged, as the machine could move automatically during calibration

Repair steps

  1. Warm transmission fluid

Warm the transmission fluid to the required temperature (>60 °C / 140 °F).

  2. Access CONFIG MENU

Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within ten seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to display the CONFIG MENU.

  3. Select TCU

Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU in the menu list and press Enter.

  4. Access ETC MENU

Press the down arrow key until the ETC MENU screen displays, then press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (the TRANS VIEW screen will display).

  5. Access TRANS SETUP

Press the down arrow key until the TRANS SETUP screen displays, then press Enter. The Cltch Cal (clutch calibration) screen will appear.

  6. Verify fluid temperature

Press Enter to access the clutch calibration screens. The Oil Deg screen will display the current hydraulic fluid temperature. If it is within the 60–105 °C range, press Enter to continue.

  7. Begin calibration

The display will prompt to begin calibration. When it says "clutch cal", push Enter.

  8. Select clutch

The screen will name the clutch to be calibrated (e.g., "Even"). Push Enter. The transmission will begin shifting automatically to find the correct calibration.

  9. Monitor calibration

The screen will display "Even 0 mA" when calibration begins. Once the controller finds the correct engagement point, it will display "*Even mA" reporting the new calibration value in milliamperes.

  10. Accept value

Press Enter to accept the value.

  11. Calibrate remaining clutches

Repeat this procedure for the remaining clutches (Odd, C1, C3, C5, low, mid, high, reverse, master) as prompted.

  12. Save and exit

Once all clutches are calibrated, the screen will display "trans cal complete". Exit the menu and shut off the engine to save the calibration values to the TCU.
