Case IH 12667 – Instrument Cluster Controller (ICC): Internal controller fault - stack overflow

Issue description

A software crash or memory management failure within the controller where the software 'stack' has exceeded its allocated space.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a hard reset of the tractor's electrical system (disconnect the battery for a short period) to clear the volatile memory and check if the stack overflow was a one-time software glitch.

  2. Check with a dealer via the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if there is a firmware update or patch available for the Instrument Cluster Controller (ICC).

  3. Verify CAN bus integrity to ensure there are no voltage spikes or CAN bus shorts flooding the ICC with excessive data telegrams.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

    Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  2. Update firmware

    Attempt to re-flash or update the firmware on the Instrument Cluster Controller (ICC).

  3. Evaluate module condition

    If the module will not accept a flash, or if the 12667 code immediately returns after a hard reset and software update, the internal memory of the controller is permanently corrupted or physically damaged.

  4. Replace controller

    Replace the Instrument Cluster Controller (ICC).
