Case IH 12669 – ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) / Trailer Brake Valve Controller: Internal controller fault - internal controller communication - timeout occurred

Internal microprocessors within the control module failed to communicate with each other within the expected timeframe (an ICC or Internal Controller Communication timeout).

   Check battery voltage and dedicated power supply lines to the ABS/Trailer Brake controller for voltage drops during cranking or operation

2. 2

   Inspect wiring harness connectors at the Trailer Brake Valve / ABS module for corrosion, moisture ingress, or backed-out pins

   Test the CAN bus lines (CAN High / CAN Low) for proper resistance (typically 60 ohms across the network)

   Clear the fault code using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the key to rule out a transient software glitch

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Clean Connections

   Locate the ABS / Trailer Brake Valve controller (typically mounted near the rear axle or under the rear cab area). Disconnect the harness, clean the contacts with electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect.

   Flash/Update Firmware

   Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH EST (Electronic Service Tool) and check for software updates. Internal communication timeouts are frequently patched via OEM firmware updates.

   Replace the Module

   If the code is an active, hard fault that cannot be cleared and firmware updates do not resolve it, the internal circuitry of the controller has failed. You must replace the Trailer Brake Valve / ABS controller assembly.

   Calibrate

   After installing the new valve/controller, use the EST to calibrate the valves and configure the ABS/Trailer brake settings to the tractor's UCM (Universal Control Module).
