Case IH 12670 – Safety Controller: time between 2 ICC data telegrams too long or too short
Issue description
The fault indicates a timing or timeout error on the Inter-Controller Communication (ICC) network. The system expects data packets (telegrams) from other modules at specific intervals. If these data telegrams arrive too slowly or too quickly, the controller flags a communication breakdown, which can disable safety or operational functions.
Check the cause
Verify system voltage. Low or fluctuating battery voltage can disrupt ICC data telegrams and cause communication timeouts.
Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the Safety Controller to the main communication bus for chafing, pinches, or breaks.
Disconnect the Safety Controller and inspect the pins for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out terminals.
Repair steps
Power down the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Power down the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Safety Controller and carefully disconnect the main wiring harness.
Locate the Safety Controller and carefully disconnect the main wiring harness.
Clean the connector pins on both the harness and the controller using an approved electrical contact cleaner.
Clean the connector pins on both the harness and the controller using an approved electrical contact cleaner.
Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the ICC communication lines between the Safety Controller and the central controller to ensure there are no open circuits or shorts to ground.

Repair any damaged wiring or replace the affected harness section if resistance values are out of specification.

Reconnect the harness, reconnect the battery, and power on the machine.
Reconnect the harness, reconnect the battery, and power on the machine.
Use the OEM diagnostic tool (e.g., JCB ServiceMaster) to clear the fault codes.

Run the machine to see if the code returns. If the wiring is intact and the code immediately returns, the Safety Controller has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
