Case IH 12673 – Safety Controller / ABS Control Module: Valve plausibility monitoring - dynamic fault
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the system has detected an implausible or illegal dynamic activation of the braking valves. The controller monitors the physical operation and electrical feedback of the valves; a 'dynamic fault' means the valve's actual behavior (pressure output, mechanical movement, or electrical draw) during operation does not match the commanded state.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Case IH Maxxum
- Case IH Puma
- Case IH Magnum
- Case IH Steiger
Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes such as 12674 or 12675 (Valve plausibility monitoring - ABS activation) or low system pressure codes (e.g., system pressure below 2.5 bar).
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the ABS solenoid modulator valves and the trailer brake valve for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause intermittent signal loss.
Perform a hydraulic/pneumatic leak test by connecting a pressure gauge (0 to 250 bar) to the trailer brake coupler, releasing the parking brake, and applying the service brakes to verify correct pressure output without leaking.
Check for air in the hydraulic brake lines, ensure the standpipe in the brake reservoir is in place, and bleed the main service brakes as well as the trailer brake valve.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor, engage the park brake, and relieve all hydraulic and pneumatic pressure from the braking system.
Access the Valve Assembly
Locate the ABS solenoid modulator valve or trailer brake valve assembly (location varies by model, but often mounted near the rear axle or transmission housing).
Test the Solenoids
Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the ABS pressure control valve solenoids (front/rear axle hold and release solenoids). If they are shorted or open, the valve block must be replaced.
Replace the Faulty Valve
Disconnect the hydraulic/pneumatic lines and electrical connectors. Unbolt the faulty ABS modulator or trailer brake valve and install the replacement unit.
Bleed the Brakes
Thoroughly bleed the tractor's braking system and the trailer brake circuit to ensure no air is trapped in the new valve.
System Test
Clear the fault codes using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Run the automated ABS system test to verify the repair and ensure the plausibility error does not return.
