12682

Case IH 12682 – Pneumatic Brake / Trailer Brake Control Module: Valve supply missing (pin 1 in power supply connector)

Issue description

The system's control module has detected an open circuit or a complete loss of electrical power (voltage) specifically at Pin 1 of the power supply connector that feeds a system control valve.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH tractors

Check the cause

  1. Locate the pneumatic trailer brake control valve on the tractor.

  2. Inspect the power supply connector at the valve for physical damage, moisture ingress, or pushed-back pins.

  3. Disconnect the connector. With the ignition ON, use a multimeter to check for 12V power at Pin 1.

  4. If no voltage is present at Pin 1, check the tractor's fuse panel for blown fuses related to the trailer brake or pneumatic system.

  5. Test the continuity of the wire running from Pin 1 back to the brake control module/fuse box to isolate any breaks or chafing in the harness.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure the circuit is de-energized.

  2. Clean the Connector

If the diagnostic check revealed corrosion at the valve connector, clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  3. Repair the Wiring

If the continuity test showed an open circuit, trace the harness along the chassis. Locate the chafed or broken wire supplying Pin 1 and repair it using a weatherproof splice connector.

  4. Replace the Fuse

If a blown fuse was found during diagnostics, replace it with a new fuse of the exact same amperage rating. (Note: If the fuse blows again immediately upon startup, the valve solenoid itself may be internally shorted and require replacement).

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the power supply connector to the valve. Turn the ignition ON, verify that the trailer brake system functions normally, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 12682 fault code from the ECU memory.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Pneumatic Trailer Brake Valve / Solenoid

if the valve is internally shorted causing a power loss

  • Wiring Harness Pigtail / Connector Repair Kit

if the connector housing or Pin 1 is melted/corroded

  • Standard Automotive Blade Fuses

to restore power to the circuit
