Case IH 12694 – EBM (Electronic Braking Module) / ABS Control Module: EEPROM configuration is corrupted
Issue description
The internal memory (EEPROM) of the control module has lost its configuration data, failed a checksum validation, or suffered a physical memory failure.

Check the cause
Inspect the battery voltage and ground connections to the EBM/ABS module to rule out low voltage during startup or shutdown.
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port and verify if the EBM/ABS module is communicating on the CAN bus.
Attempt a module reconfiguration or re-flash using the CNH EST. If it accepts the flash, it was a software-level corruption; if it fails, the EEPROM chip has a hardware failure.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the main battery power to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the EBM/ABS module.
Typically mounted near the brake valve assembly or under the cab, depending on the specific chassis.
Carefully disconnect the multi-pin wiring harness from the module.
Remove the mounting hardware and extract the corrupted module.
Install the replacement EBM/ABS module and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.
Reconnect the battery power.
Connect the CNH EST to program the new module.
A new module will log code 12697 ('ECU not yet configured'). You must use the EST to program the new module with the correct vehicle configuration file and perform the EOL (End of Line) calibration.
