Case IH 12698 – EBM (Electronic Braking Module) / ABS Controller: EOL CNH test not done

The End of Line (EOL) factory calibration or self-test sequence for the braking control module was never successfully completed, or the module has lost its calibration memory. This typically happens if a new, unprogrammed module is installed, if a software flash fails, or if the module's EEPROM data becomes corrupted.

   Determine if the EBM was recently replaced, updated, or if the tractor recently underwent major service (a newly installed EBM will throw this code until calibrated)

   Look for active CAN communication faults (e.g., 12699 CAN message lost, 12700 CAN data lost) or EEPROM errors (e.g., 12694 EEPROM corrupted, 12696 FLASH default corrupted). Resolve wiring/CAN bus issues first

   Check if code 12701 (EBM in factory test mode) is active, indicating the module is stuck in a diagnostic state

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

   Turn ignition ON

   Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

   Navigate to EBM

   Navigate to the EBM (Electronic Braking Module) in the EST software.

   Access Calibration menu

   Access the Calibration / EOL (End of Line) Test menu.

   Execute EOL test

   Follow the on-screen prompts to execute the KB EOL (Knorr-Bremse End of Line) test. This will force the module to run its self-checks and learn the vehicle's specific pneumatic/hydraulic brake valve configurations.

   Clear fault codes

   Once the EST confirms the EOL test is successfully completed, clear the fault codes.

   Verify repair

   Cycle the key off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on to verify that code 12698 does not return.

   Replace EBM

   If the EOL test repeatedly fails or if EEPROM corruption codes (12694/12696) cannot be cleared, the EBM itself has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
