Case IH 127 – ATC: High pressure switch (-) input shorted to power
Issue description
The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module has detected a short-to-power condition on the negative (-) side of the A/C high-pressure switch circuit. The high-pressure switch is a normally closed switch designed to protect the air conditioning system from overpressure by disengaging the compressor clutch. Because the switch is normally closed, a short to power on the negative return wire indicates either a wiring harness failure, an internal switch failure, or a fault within the ATC controller itself.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying ATC codes (such as 126, 129, or 134) to isolate if the issue is purely electrical or if the A/C system is actually over-pressurizing.
Visually inspect the wiring harness and all connectors between the A/C high-pressure switch and the ATC controller for rubbed-through insulation, melted wires, or pinched harnesses.
Disconnect the harness at the high-pressure switch and check the negative (-) pin for voltage with the key ON. If voltage is present, the harness is shorted to a power source.
Test the high-pressure switch for continuity. It should be normally closed (continuity present) at rest.
If the harness tests good, check the ATC controller output pins to ensure the module hasn't failed internally and isn't sending errant voltage down the ground/return circuit.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Switch
Locate the A/C high-pressure switch. It is threaded directly into the high-pressure side of the A/C system line, typically near the A/C compressor or condenser.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic test revealed a short in the wiring, trace the wire back to the ATC module, cut out the damaged section, and splice in a new wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors.
Switch Replacement (If Applicable)
Check if your specific machine has a Schrader valve beneath the switch. If it does, the switch can be unthreaded without losing refrigerant. If it does not, the A/C system must be safely evacuated by a certified technician before removal. Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. Unthread the faulty high-pressure switch using a wrench. Thread the new switch onto the fitting (do not overtighten; brass threads can strip). Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and use the electronic service tool or the cab monitor to clear the ATC 127 fault code. Start the tractor and engage the A/C to verify the compressor clutch engages and the code does not return.
