Case IH 12701 – Electronic Brake Module (EBM): EBM in Factory Test Mode; don't use on public roads
Issue description
The Electronic Brake Module (EBM) is currently locked in 'Factory Test Mode', a diagnostic state used by the brake system manufacturer during End-Of-Line (EOL) manufacturing tests. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) and advanced braking features will not function normally while the module is in this test state, posing a severe safety risk at transport speeds.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Optum Series
Check the cause
Determine if the EBM was recently replaced. A brand-new, unprogrammed, or improperly configured replacement module will often default to Factory Test Mode until calibrated.
Check if the automated ABS system test was interrupted.
Verify the EBM switched battery power supply. Check the EBM fuses (e.g., the 7.5A Mini Brown fuse) to ensure the module is receiving consistent voltage to complete its boot/calibration cycle.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Equipment
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) via the protocol adapter to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Access the EBM
Navigate to the Electronic Brake Module (EBM) / ABS controller menu.
Run the EOL / Calibration Test
The module must be formally taken out of Factory Test Mode. Initiate the automated ABS system test or the End-Of-Line (EOL) calibration procedure through the EST software.
Complete the Cycle
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the KB EOL test. This usually involves verifying wheel speed sensors and valve plausibility.
Clear Codes
Once the test is successfully passed, the EST will reset the module to its normal operational state. Clear the fault codes and cycle the key.
Module Replacement (If Necessary)
If the EBM refuses to exit Factory Test Mode or fails the automated ABS test due to an internal EEPROM configuration corruption, the EBM itself must be replaced and reprogrammed.
