Case IH 12705 – eXBR1: CAN communication error - eXBR1 target wheel speed out of range.
Issue description
The system has detected an invalid data parameter over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, the target wheel speed data being broadcast or received by the "eXBR1" node is outside of the programmed plausible range.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- Case IH Puma Series (Puma 155, 170, 185, 200, 215, 220, 240, including CVT models)
- Case IH Optum Series (Optum 300 CVT)
Check the cause
Check EBM Power Supply: Verify the fuses powering the Electronic Brake Module. Parts diagrams highlight Fuse F-204 (7.5A, Mini, Brown) as the switched battery power supply for the EBM.
Inspect Wheel Speed Sensors: Inspect the front and rear wheel speed sensors and their harnesses for physical damage, debris, or loose connections that could cause erratic speed readings.
CAN Bus Wiring: Inspect the CAN communication wiring harness connecting to the Electronic Brake Module for chafing, corrosion, or pin fitment issues.
Repair steps
Replace
Replace blown EBM fuses if power is lost.
Repair or replace
Repair or replace the ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor harness if continuity is broken.
Replace
Replace the Wheel Speed Sensor if it is outputting erratic data.
Replace
Replace the Electronic Brake Module (EBM) if it has failed internally and is corrupting CAN messages.
