Case IH 12706 – EBM (Electronic Braking Module) or VCM (Vehicle Control Module): CAN communication error — eXBR1 inconsistent parameters

Data or configuration parameters being broadcast by the eXBR1 node (Electronic External Braking / Trailer Brake Control / ABS module) over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus do not match the expected values, are corrupted, or are out of sequence.

   Check the specific fuses powering the EBM (e.g., Fuse F-204 7.5A on Optum models).

   With the battery disconnected, measure the Powertrain CAN bus terminating resistance at the diagnostic port or module connector (should read approximately 60 ohms).

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the EBM/ABS module for corrosion, moisture ingress, or backed-out pins.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the module has lost its configuration or if there is a software mismatch between the EBM and the VCM.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Connect the CNH EST to the tractor's diagnostic port and perform a full system scan. Look for accompanying codes (such as 12694 EEPROM corrupted, 12696 FLASH configuration corrupted, or 12698 EOL test not completed) which point to internal module memory failure.

   Inspect Wiring

   If communication timeout codes are also present, physically inspect and repair the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the EBM and the cab controller.

   Reconfigure the Module

   If the wiring is intact, use the CNH EST to access the EBM configuration. Reload the correct vehicle configuration file (End of Line / EOL data) into the EBM to resolve the parameter inconsistency.

   Module Replacement

   If the EBM will not accept the programming, fails to communicate entirely, or the parameter error immediately returns after a successful flash, the internal memory of the module is likely corrupted. The EBM must be replaced.

   Calibration

   If the EBM is replaced, use the EST to perform the EOL (End of Line) calibration for the braking system.

   Clear and Test

   Clear all fault codes and test drive the tractor, ensuring the trailer brake and ABS systems function correctly without triggering warning lights.
