Case IH 12812 – Trailer Brake Controller: Trailer Brake Controller Service Brake Sensor Voltage Low
Issue description
The service brake pedal demand sensor (Sensor 1) is sending a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal that is permanently low (voltage below normal or shorted to ground). Because the controller relies on this PWM signal to determine brake pedal position, a permanent low level means the controller cannot detect brake demand, disabling the trailer brake function for safety.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the brake pedal demand sensor for physical damage, corrosion, or backed-out pins
Test the Sensor 1 supply circuit for a short to ground
Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and has a solid ground connection using a multimeter
Back-probe the sensor's signal wire with an oscilloscope or multimeter to check if the PWM signal changes when the brake pedal is depressed
Disconnect the sensor and Trailer Brake Controller connector to check for continuity on the signal wire, ruling out an open circuit or chafing
