   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the ITBV and the specific Inlet Valve solenoid for broken wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs

   Disconnect the plug at the Inlet Valve and check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the Inlet Valve solenoid coil. An 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance reading confirms the coil has failed internally

   Check if related codes are present (e.g., 12825 Short to Power, 12826 Short to Ground, or 12828 HighCurrent at Inlet Valve) to rule out a broader harness short

   Depressurize the System

   If working on a pneumatic trailer brake system, safely bleed the air pressure from the tractor's air tanks. If hydraulic, ensure the tractor is off and hydraulic pressure is relieved.

   Locate the ITBV Assembly

   The Trailer Brake Control Valve is typically mounted on a support bracket near the rear axle or transmission housing.

   Disconnect Electrical & Lines

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the Inlet Valve solenoid. If the valve cannot be serviced separately, mark and disconnect the pneumatic/hydraulic lines from the ITBV assembly.

   Replace the Component

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the valve. Install the new Inlet Valve or complete Trailer Brake Control Valve assembly.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the air/hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

   Testing

   Start the tractor, allow the air/hydraulic system to build pressure, and clear the fault codes. Actuate the trailer brakes to ensure the code does not return and there are no leaks.
