129

Case IH 129 – TMF (Tractor Multifunction Controller): Aux 2nd Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.

Issue description

The circuit controlling the 'raise' function of the 2nd auxiliary remote hydraulic valve is receiving unexpected 12-volt power, typically caused by an internal short within the solenoid coil itself or a wiring harness shorting to a 12-volt power source.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • Case IH TG Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Disconnect the Aux 2nd Raise Coil solenoid and use a multimeter to check the coil's resistance for an internal short circuit.

  2. Trace the wiring from the 2nd auxiliary remote valve back to the TMF controller, checking for wires rubbed through insulation touching a 12V source (especially near hydraulic pipes).

  3. Verify the TMF controller itself hasn't failed and is outputting the correct voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Valve

Identify the 2nd auxiliary remote valve block, typically located at the rear of the tractor.

  2. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the electrical connector specifically routed to the 'Raise' coil on the 2nd valve.

  3. Test/Replace the Solenoid

If the multimeter test confirms the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut/hardware, slide the old coil off the valve cartridge, and install a new 12V solenoid coil.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the solenoid tests fine, locate the short in the wiring harness. Repair any exposed or broken wires using proper weather-sealed connectors, and reroute the harness away from hydraulic lines or pinch points to prevent future rubbing.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the system, turn the key on, and clear the error codes from the multifunction controller. If you are unable to clear the codes or the issue persists, official documentation advises seeking assistance from a certified Case IH mechanic.

  6. Function Test

Actuate the 2nd auxiliary remote via the armrest controls to ensure the 'raise' function operates without triggering the fault.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Auxiliary Remote Valve Solenoid Coil (12 Volt)

When ordering, you must specify your tractor's exact model and serial number to ensure the correct 12V solenoid coil is provided for your specific remote valve block.
