Case IH 12916 – MTA CCM & APH: Checksum Error for parameter 2
Issue description
Indicates an EEPROM checksum error or a corrupted calibration value within the control module's memory. The software has detected that the stored parameter data does not match its expected mathematical checksum, meaning the data has been corrupted, lost, or improperly configured.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Farmall 40, 45, and 50 Tractors
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Maxxum 115-150 & Profi 4115-6145 (Tier 4B/Stage V)
Check the cause
Verify the 12V power supply to the ECU and inspect all related fuses for a low voltage event or high side driver power supply failure.
Check if the Armrest Control Module (ACM) or CCM/APH is incorrectly configured.
Look for other checksum errors (e.g., 12917 for parameter 3, 12918 for parameter 4) which indicate widespread EEPROM corruption.
Use the diagnostic lead to access the 'H menu' on-board diagnostics to extract stored vehicle fault codes and verify subsystem configurations.
Repair steps
Clear and Recalibrate
Attempt to rewrite the corrupted data by performing the EDC Valve Calibration Procedure or the specific subsystem calibration (often referred to as the 'H8' procedure in the H menu).
Prepare for Calibration
Park the tractor on a flat surface, set the parking brake, and ensure the area is clear. Disconnect all implements. The tractor must be completely stopped.
Run Calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts via the diagnostic tool to rewrite the parameters to the CCM/APH.
Software Flash
If calibration fails to clear the checksum error, the module's software may need to be re-flashed by a dealer using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Module Replacement/Repair
If the EEPROM has suffered a hard physical failure and will not accept a flash or calibration, the CCM/APH module must be removed and either sent out for board-level repair or replaced entirely.
Parts you might need
(2)Cab Control Module (CCM) / Armrest Panel Hub (APH) / R1 Unit
MANHMO00830NEWHardware ID 918 APH, CCM MR units sent for remanufacturing/repair. Exact part number must be verified against the tractor's VIN/Serial number in the CNH parts catalog. A new module will require dealer programming upon installation.
