Case IH 12922 – MTA CCM or APH: Checksum Error for parameter 8

Issue description

A checksum error indicates that the data stored in the controller's internal non-volatile memory (EEPROM) for a specific parameter does not match the expected mathematical value. This is an internal module fault caused by data corruption, a failed software flash, or a physical hardware failure of the memory chip.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Farmall 40
  • Farmall 45
  • Farmall 50

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the battery is fully charged (12-14V) and passes a load test.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness, specifically the power and ground pins at the CCM connector, ensuring there are no shorts to ground or loose connections.

  3. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the fault is active or stored, attempt to clear the code, and cycle the key to see if it returns immediately.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Hook up the Case IH EST to the machine's diagnostic port to communicate with the CCM/APH.

  2. Attempt a Re-flash

Attempt to re-flash the CCM with the latest firmware update using the EST. Ensure the machine is hooked up to a stable battery maintainer during this process, as voltage drops will cause the flash to fail.

  3. Perform Calibrations

If the flash is successful, perform all necessary transmission and armrest calibrations as prompted by the EST.

  4. Replace the Module

If the EST cannot communicate with the module, the re-flash fails, or the 12922 code returns immediately after a successful flash and key cycle, the internal EEPROM is permanently damaged and the CCM must be physically replaced.

  5. Program New Module

Install the new CCM and use the EST to program the blank module to the tractor's specific configuration and serial number.

Parts you might need

(7)
  • CCM Electronic Control Module / Electronic Control Unit
